Sometimes the names of restaurants can be deceiving. For they offer foods and quality that you don't expect. Such is the case for Roman pizza.
Roman Pizza is a small, family run restaurant located in the Calder area of town.
Inside the walls are decorated with dark wooden panelling and all of the seating is in the form of comfortable booths which I like.
Although the restaurant is small the menu is huge.
They feature western food(steaks, burgers and sandwiches), Italian(pizzas and pastas), Greek fare, middle eastern (donairs and such) and just when you think you've read everything on the menu, you flip over to the back and see a whole section of Indian food!
The have literally hundreds of dishes and options to choose from here and it will take you a while to decide upon what you really want.
I started with a large Greek salad. It came out in a large bowl and had a generous amount of feta cheese in it. Very satisfying.
Next I wanted to try something Indian. I asked the waiter what he recommended and he suggested butter chicken as it was their best seller.
Wow, what a dish!
The meat in the butter chicken was lean and completely fat free. And the sauce....oh the sauce! One of the most delicious sauces I've ever experienced any where. It's hard to put my finger on it, but it seemed to be like a spicy tomato. I took the warm naan bread the came with the dish and greedily scooped up every drop I could. No wonder it is their best seller.
Total price for everything was only $27 which is very reasonable.
I can't wait to come back here and try some of the other items on their menu.
They have interesting twists on common foods like Punjabi pizza and Indian donairs that I want to explore.
So if you find yourself in the Calder area and your stomach is growling and you can't make up your mind on what you want to eat, pop into Romans Pizza and give the foods on their diverse menu a shot. -

Well what can I say. Definitely not the same as the previous owners for food quality. New ideas and ingredients does not mean better. I have deserted a place I had frequented for over 40 years. Change is not always a good thing as proven by the new owner. Wish him the best but we are done. Sad

This was my first time at this restaurant and I was not a fan but my friends did warn me. You can tell the restaurant is really old since the decor has not been updated. It's dark and small inside.
My friends said the pizza is good but since I didn't feel like pizza, I went with the basic burger and fries thinking you can't really go wrong with that. It was okay, frozen large patty with lettuce and tomato and you get relish and mustard in the small packet. It came with the big steak fries.
My friend had the cheeseburger which was the same as my burger but just with cheese. My other friend decided to try tandoori chicken since there were indian dishes on the back of the menu. Very disappointing...the giant plate of rice was not even warm, the chicken thigh and drumstick looked dry and was a pale orange color, not deep red like at indian restaurants. The chicken was still cold so we believe it was frozen. I don't remember seeing any steak entrees on the menu although you would think they would serve that since it's in the restaurant name.
We were the only ones in the restaurant and the food took a really long time. The pizza delivery man seemed busy so the kitchen staff was probably busy filling the pizza orders. Once our food was ready, it was brought to us by the pizza delivery man who was still wearing his jacket.
The hostess/waitress/owner? didn't come and check on us until we were finished our meal so she could take the plates away. I would not try this place again, no service or good food. -

Great East Indian food, and my very favorite pizza in Edmonton. The restaurant is never busy, and the service is a bit slow but the food is excellent. I have only tried the pasta once and the noodles were over cooked. But I do recommend the samosa's, briyani and pizza.

This food is DISGUSTING. PUKE PUKE. Pizza burnt. Got 12 dry ribs for 7.95 that were cooked in OLD oil. Donairs were the most disgusting ones I ever tasted. They say best pizza in town, I say worst pizza in town. I would give this place a zero star, but you had to pick one. I will NEVER ever eat here again.
